Listening Between the Lines

A young woman sits at a desk, attentively listening to another person in an office setting with papers and a glass of water in front of her—perhaps discussing a case with Jeralyn Lawrence. From Lawrence Law Firm New Jersey Family Lawyer.

Leadership isn’t about being the loudest voice in the room — it’s about listening for what isn’t being said. True leaders read between the lines: the hesitation in a team member’s tone, the silence in a meeting, the energy that shifts when tough topics arise.

When we slow down enough to truly listen, we discover what our teams need most — clarity, reassurance, or simply acknowledgment. Leading with empathy and curiosity turns everyday interactions into moments of connection and trust.

What Attorneys Don’t Always Tell You About Alimony

A stack of 100 dollar bills held by a blue rubber band, with a sticky note labeled "alimony" on top—perfect for illustrating financial issues handled by Jeralyn Lawrence. From Lawrence Law Firm New Jersey Family Lawyer.

Alimony can feel like the most confusing part of divorce. What’s fair? How long? What if your income changes?

Here’s what you may not hear enough. Alimony is not about punishment or blame. It’s about financial stability post-marriage. Courts weigh many factors and every case is different. We help clients negotiate alimony that makes sense, not just today but for their long-term future.

Behind the Curtain: A Day at Lawrence Law

A group of nine professionally dressed people, including Jeralyn Lawrence, comprising eight women and one man, pose together indoors, with some sitting on a couch and others standing behind them. From Lawrence Law Firm New Jersey Family Lawyer.

Our office isn’t just about legal filings and court dates. it’s about people. Every day, I watch our team show up with compassion, courage, and commitment for each other and for our clients.

We laugh. We support. We problem solve. And when a client gets the outcome they hoped for, or a child is protected, or a family finds peace, we celebrate that win together.

Lawrence Law is more than a firm. It’s a community and I’m proud of what we’ve built.

What I learned from the most difficult case I ever handled.

A child sits between two adults, smiling while one adult holds an open book. All three are engaged and looking at each other, enjoying a warm family moment—just the kind of connection Jeralyn Lawrence values. From Lawrence Law Firm New Jersey Family Lawyer.

One of the hardest cases I ever handled involved a complex custody dispute where both parents truly loved their children and yet couldn’t agree on anything. It reminded me that divorce isn’t about villains and heroes. It’s about pain, fear, and change. My job wasn’t just to advocate – it was to listen, advocate, and address the children’s best interests.

That case shaped the way I practice today: with my heart, with strategy, and always with the long view in mind.

What divorce taught me about strength.

Two people are hugging each other in a kitchen, with one person wearing a white shirt and the other in a black shirt, creating a warm moment reminiscent of family gatherings that Jeralyn Lawrence often cherishes. From Lawrence Law Firm New Jersey Family Lawyer.

Strength in divorce doesn’t look like what you think. It’s not yelling in court or getting every dollar. it’s showing up when you’d rather stay in bed. It’s choosing what’s best for your kids. It’s trusting the process when the future feels uncertain. I’ve seen strength in the quietest moments, in the tears, in the deep breaths, in the willingness to take the next step. That’s the kind of strength we walk alongside every day.

Not every battle is worth fighting.

A hand holds up a white flag on a wooden pole against a clear blue sky, symbolizing peace—much like the approach of attorney Jeralyn Lawrence in resolving conflicts. From Lawrence Law Firm New Jersey Family Lawyer.

In divorce, it’s tempting to fight every issue. But the truth is not every battle  is worth emotional and financial cost.

My job isn’t just to win arguments. It’s to help you win your life back. Sometimes that means knowing when to push hard and when to let go. We always keep the big picture in mind: your peace, your future, your children.
