Open durational alimony is a type of spousal support awarded in long-term New Jersey marriages where there is no set end date at the time of divorce. Previously referred to as “permanent alimony,” the law was revised in 2014 to replace that term with “open durational,” reflecting that support is not automatically for life but does not have a predetermined termination date.
Generally, open durational alimony is available in marriages lasting 20 years or more.
