July 17, 2026- The New Jersey Courts have adopted a statewide adjournment protocol that promotes fairness, consistency, and attorney well-being.

he New Jersey Supreme Court has taken an important step in advancing attorney well-being by implementing a new statewide adjournment protocol for all trial divisions of the Superior Court. The directive reinforces principles of fairness, transparency, consistency, and professionalism while recognizing that attorneys, like everyone else, may experience personal emergencies and circumstances that require flexibility.
This significant initiative reflects both the Judiciary’s commitment to supporting the legal profession and the collaborative efforts of the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Putting Lawyers First Task Force, led by Jeralyn L. Lawrence and supported by more than 50 volunteer attorneys from across New Jersey. We also recognize the leadership of Chief Justice Stuart Rabner, the Supreme Court Wellness Committee, and Acting Administrative Director of the Courts Judge Michael J. Blee for helping advance these recommendations into meaningful reforms that strengthen New Jersey’s legal profession. Together, their collective leadership continues to enhance both our profession and the administration of justice.
