Rita M. Aquilio, a matrimonial and family law attorney with Lawrence Law, attended the American Bar Association’s Annual Meeting which took place in San Francisco August 8 – 13. Aquilio is Co-Chair of the American Bar Association’s Section of Litigation Family Law Committee for 2019-2020.
While in San Francisco, Aquilio participated in a variety of plenary and CLE programs, as well as networking and events promoting equal justice under the rule of law. The Annual Meeting is the nation’s largest gathering of legal professionals. The Section of Litigation headquarters was venued at the Westin Union Square. She also attended the General Assembly and voted for Delegates-At-Large in an election process open to all attendees registered for the Meeting.
The Section of Litigation Family Law Committee assists the litigator of domestic relations and family law disputes through the presentation of programs, forums for exchange of information, and regular communication on family law matters. A particular focus of the family law committee is on providing representation or assistance to unrepresented parties in family law matters, through pro se and pro bono efforts, and the role that individual practitioners and the bar can play in these efforts. The committee follows national developments in family law litigation and brings appropriate issues to the attention of the Section for its input and action.
Aquilio practices in the areas of matrimonial and family law litigation, including alimony, child support, custody, property settlement agreements, equitable distribution and post-judgment issues. She represents clients in all types of matrimonial actions, from basic matters to complex asset valuation cases. She is a trained Collaborative Divorce Attorney and is also a member of the NJSBA Family Law Executive Committee, as well as the Somerset County Family Practice Committee. She is a member of the NJSBA Appellate Practice Committee. Aquilio has also been trained by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers as a Family Law Arbitrator. She is a Trustee of the Somerset County Bar Association and a Member of the District XIII Ethics Committee. Aquilio is a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, the New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators, and the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts. She is a member of the American Bar Association, the New Jersey State Bar Association, Somerset County Bar Association and Morris County Bar Association. She is a member of the Editorial Board of the New Jersey Lawyer Magazine, the professional journal of the New Jersey State Bar Association. Aquilio earned her J.D. from Western New England College School of Law, and her B.A., cum laude, from Drew University.
