Rita M. Aquilio, of Lawrence Law, to speak at the ABA Section of Litigation & Solo, Small Firm and General Practice Division Conference

Rita M. Aquilio, a matrimonial and family law attorney with Lawrence Law, will participate in a panel discussion entitled “Judge, What do you want to hear?” on May 3, 2019 at the ABA Section of Litigation & Solo, Small Firm and General Practice Division Conference.

As Co-Chair of the presenting Family Law Litigation Committee, Aquilio will present direct examination of a financial expert in a bench trial. Presenting a trial before a judge can be significantly different than presenting to a jury. Trial lawyers should consider different styles and methods when arguing a bench trial to effectively represent their clients. This mini mock trial includes opening statements, a direct and cross examination of an expert witness, and a discussion with a panel of judges.

The Section of Litigation & Solo, Small Firm and General Practice Division (GPSolo) CLE Conference is being held May 1–3, 2019 at the New York Marriott Marquis in New York City. This conference is the premier event for litigators and solo and small firm practitioners. The Conference brings together lawyers and judges from across the U.S. and Canada to share the very latest in trial skills, litigation strategy, case management, and practice advice.

Aquilio practices in the areas of divorce, child support, custody, and post-judgment issues. She represents clients in all types of matrimonial actions, from basic matters to complex asset valuation cases. She is a trained Collaborative Divorce Attorney and a member of the Executive Committee of the Somerset County Family Practice Committee. Aquilio has also been trained by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers as a Family Law Arbitrator. She is a Trustee of the Somerset County Bar Association and a Member of the District XIII Ethics Committee. She is a member of the Editorial Board of the New Jersey Lawyer Magazine, the professional journal of the New Jersey State Bar Association. Aquilio earned her J.D. from Western New England College School of Law, and her B.A., cum laude, from Drew University.
